Here you will find items that reflect the philosophy of our Church and a short history of St Marks
(once sufficient detail has been obtained) plus items that require a policy decision

For example, our harvest thanks giving was donated to the Sudan
hence the bags of rice, if you look closely at the picture below

PCC MEETING 14TH July 2004

Church Re-Ordering: A Presentation by the Rector

Arising from the comments/views expressed at the May meeting in response to the question ‘What would you like to see happening this church in the next twelve months?

The Rector commented that

a)Previous comments were suggestive of what is perhaps a widespread feeling that at St. Mark's, in terms of décor and display, we do not do justice to ourselves or the God we worship in the building we have inherited. He (Charles) finds it a difficult building in which to lead worship and to draw people together as a worshipping community. Nevertheless, our forebears worked hard to make this building possible which the Christian community should be able to use thoughtfully and creatively.
b) The Rector also outlined, with All Saints’ as an example, how the religious expression of god's people has evolved through the ages. If as custodians of a living tradition we are to write a further chapter we must begin by doing two things:
c)Seek to understand why our building is as it is. Change this by evolution not revolution. We must ask ourselves, what was the ‘religious expression’ which shaped and ordered the interior as we have inherited it? How much of it is still true to us and to what extent have we moved on from it?
d) Examine our life and purpose as God's people in this place and seek to discover how the building we have inherited can best be used and ordered to the greater glory of God.

Affirming Catholicism in the British Isles

Affirming Catholicism is a movement within the Church of England, formed in 1990. We affirm that the Anglican Communion is holy, Catholic and apostolic; that the riches of the Catholic Tradition are needed throughout the Church to further the Christian Mission including lay and ordained people in Church government, and of both men and women in the threefold ministry.
There are five guidelines for Christian living;

1) disciplined lives of regular prayer, study and worship
2) commitment to the social and moral transformation of the world
3) models of love and community for all seeking to follow the Gospel
4) a living Catholic tradition to carry the gifts of the past into the future
5) liturgy to inspire holiness and relate the greatness of God to his people today

We publish a number of theological booklets on pressing and controversial topics as well as aspects of Anglican history and our tradition. We have 1,500 members in the British Isles, locally we are organised into diocesan groups.
