MOTHERS UNION |
Mothers Union Prayer Loving Lord We thank you for your love so freely given to us all. We pray for families around the world. Bless the work of the Mothers' Union as we seek to share your love through the encouragement, strengthening and support of marriage and family life. Empowered by your Spirit, may we be united in prayer and worship, and in love and service reach out as your hands across the world. In Jesus' name. Amen |
At our June Meeting Margaret Perkins told us of the very valuable work done by HYPED in Ferndown. This stands for Homeless Young People In Dorset.
Her area actually stretches as far as Wimborne and Christchurch and concerns those teenagers who are made homeless for many reasons. Sometimes it is because they have had problems at home with parents. It could be because a step-father comes into the home or because there has been abuse of some sort or because of behaviour problems and they have been evicted. Before they are offered alternative accommodation it is necessary to listen to their problems and if possible bridge the gap between them and their parents. They have different grades of homes available and they will usually start in high dependency units and move to medium and lower dependency units. There are strict rules and if they break all the rules they will have to leave. Generally they improve and it must give these dedicated workers great satisfaction when they get better jobs in the workplace and are able to live a happy life again. It is surprising that this sort of homelessness does exist in Ferndown but it is a very worthwhile cause and Margaret Perkins is doing a wonderful job for these teenagers. They are always pleased to receive gifts of tins of food which Mothers Union are hoping to do and if you would like to contribute I am sure they will be very grateful.
Jackie and John Pike celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on 14th June and we asked Charles to present them with an Orchid and a special card signed by everyone. Jackie has been our Secretary for many years and has now taken on the job of Treasurer.
Our next Meeting will be on Tuesday 8th July when we shall have our Community Policewoman, Sarah Freestone, to speak to us about her work in the local area. This is all part of the 'Adopt A Cop' initiative in the Church and you will be very welcome to join us.
