MOTHERS UNION |
Mothers Union Prayer Loving Lord We thank you for your love so freely given to us all. We pray for families around the world. Bless the work of the Mothers' Union as we seek to share your love through the encouragement, strengthening and support of marriage and family life. Empowered by your Spirit, may we be united in prayer and worship, and in love and service reach out as your hands across the world. In Jesus' name. Amen |
On Mothering Sunday Mothers Union members will be doing the Reading and the Intercessions and the Rector will be welcoming some new members. Families and Marriage is what M.U. is all about and we are very aware of that in our branch here at St. Marks. We were able to discuss this with the Rector at our postponed A.G.M. on 19th January.
He suggested we should begin some of our meetings with the Eucharist and we did just that for our February meeting which was held in the Carpenters Chapel. Afterwards Alison Oakes, who had until recently been our Archdeaconry Chairman for Dorset, told us something about her three years in that post. Although she still works as a Nurse she did for a while take charge of the Caravans at Durdle Door. These are supplied by the Mothers Union to give those who would not normally be able to have a holiday that opportunity at Durdle Door. The branches raise the money and supply all the necessities needed as well as food. Until recently M.U. also had a venue on the Isle of Wight for the same purpose but this has now been changed to a Christian hotel in Devon.
March will be a busy month as on 13th we shall be going to Salisbury Cathedral for the Diocesan Festival. Each branch will take their Banner which will be processed proudly down the Nave.
Our speaker on 9th March will be Elizabeth Campbell who will be telling us something about what it is like "Living on 3 Continents" during her travels with Alistair. I know that this will be a talk not to be missed by members of our Congregation and I hope you will come along to the Hall at 2.30 and join us.
We now have a Mothers Union Notice Board in the Church Hall with lots of interesting facts about the Mothers Union. Do read it and if you would like to join us you are assured of a warm welcome
