MAGAZINE

If you receive the printed version of the Parish Magazine you have received three this year. The magazine has been in existence for over half a century and provides the latest parish information as well as interesting articles for its readers, but have you ever wondered how it is actually produced?

It is, in fact, the combined effort of a conscientious band of parishioners who go into action 10 times a year (August & January the two months off) and there are 7 stages of production before it comes through your letterbox. It begins with the contributors' articles, which are passed to the Editor, Jane Norris (email editor@stmarkswestparley.org) to assemble before being handed to Frank Sizer and a helper to print. Next Ann Los and her team of 2 collate the copies (approx 300), both these stages taking place in our Print Room at St. Marks. Finally Mr & Mrs Hyatt (Tel 874522 to take out a subscription), distributes the finished product to the 18 members who deliver to the subscribers.

I'm sure you will agree that the magazine is a very worthwhile Parish "activity" and it would be sad if it had to be discontinued because of lack of helpers. Unfortunately, however, when one of the sections is shorthanded, it is often impossible to find a substitute. One of the collators, in fact, is not even a Church Member, which is rather a sad reflection on us all. There is nothing complicated in the various procedures - just come along and see for yourself what is involved, nor are they very time-consuming. It would be a great relief to know that there was a group of volunteers available to help with printing, collating or delivering when needed, so please come forward and contact one of the Churchwardens or Magazine officials if you are able to help or would like more details. Not only would you be very welcome but also you would be able to get the latest Parish news hot off the press!
