Second Opinion by The Revd Canon Tim Biles

The Revd Canon Tim Biles, the controversial Sarum Link columnist, is to retire after providing the Salisbury Diocese with his Second Opinion for over a decade.

Tim originally agreed, with the then Sarum Link Editor Kevin Catchpole, to write the column for six months, taking over from the former Principal of Sarum College, Canon Philip Crowe. 12 years later Tim feels the time has finally come to put down his pen.

Nicky Davies, current Editor of Sarum Link said, “I have been so grateful to Tim for his support over the three years of my editorship. He always meets his deadlines and regularly causes people to think outside of the box. His articles have stimulated a lot of discussion and numerous letters! He will be a hard act to follow.

Tim added, “My opinion of the column is that its value has been the sharing of differing views of faith. The articles have exposed the underlying issues which divide every congregation and which are at the root of the schism looming in the Anglican Communion.

Tim's latest book, entitled Second Opinions will be launched at Sarum College in the Cathedral Close Thurs. 8th Sept.

It contains a collection of his favourite articles and the correspondence he received following publication. Of the book, Tim said, “My hope is that this book will encourage sharing different views of faith in the parishes. If the book helps us to understand each other better and live together more peaceably, I will be happy.

The book will be on sale from Sarum College bookshop from August 15th and will cost £7.50. To order your copy call 01722 424800. Any profits will be shared with Christian Aid. All welcome to attend the booklaunch with refreshments at Sarum College at 5.30pm.
