THE EPILOGUE

First our friends the Incorporated Church Building Society. The letter below refers to one written by the I C B S dated 19 July 1956. I have searched for this letter but it is not with the records that I have. Anyway funds were short and having complied with their requirements lets have some money, albeit two years later than the original request.

Hmm... I don't actually recall seeing anything to the I C B S in the church accounts recently...
Fortunately the summer of 1957 was a pleasantly warm one as the gas heating is still not working.

Letter dated 17th June 1957
From Allner Morley & Bolton
To Charlewood

Dear Commander Charlewood

West Parley Hall/Church

We have been doing our utmost to get the flue pipe fitted to the boiler at the above so that Messrs Heat Rite can carry out the tests.

There being some lack of agreement between the gas company and Messrs Heat Rite as to the type of flue and top to be provided a meeting was arranged between their representatives and Mr Stacey's foreman. Perhaps you were aware of this.

The gas company hoped to be able to supply the type of flue pipe they consider essential but we now learn that they are unable to do so. Messrs Heat Rite have therefore undertaken to get this and if necessary to make the 'Chinaman's Hat' to fit on the top themselves. As soon as this is available Mr Stacey has promised to fix it.

I am extremely sorry that this delay should have arisen although fortunately the provision of heating at the moment is largely academic. Yours sincerely Morley

In September 1957 a further architects certificate was presented and paid though this was not to be the last. Let us see what transpired in 1958 in epilogue 2
