And so we come to the culmination of this work, the 25 April 1957. At this last moment I must now confess I have no idea why it was decided to dedicate the church to St Marks. Perhaps there is a rota somewhere and St Mark's name was at the top. If anyone knows how or why this Saint was choosen, please tell me.

In the magazine of March 1957 an announcement was made by two sparrows that the date of the dedication was 25 April. It also contained sundry appeals for funds, of course.

Now I will tell you that on the evening of the 25 April 1957 the temperature at the weather station at Hurn Airport (which, for the non locals who are reading this, is about 5 kilometres or 3 miles down the road) was 9.4°C or 49°F, so given the number of people in the hall, it was probably comfortably warm. What is the significance of this? Well, the heating had not been installed for one thing. In fact this is far from being the end of the story. For now let us bask in the glow of the above picture and perhaps I will see some of you in the epilogue.
